Wedding Eras. The 1950's

Fashion is always moving in a circle, and we once again return to the feminine silhouette during the 1950's. Gone are the 1940's military influences as women's fashion turned more abstract. Abstract meaning that the tailored fashions of the 1940's are now replaced with large "shell" qualities. Tiny waists are followed by full skirts with crinoline slips and the bust line once again accented. This is called a bell silhouette.

Trends in the 1950's included a very matching color pallet. From your hat, coat, scarf, gloves, etc., matching ensembles were very popular. Necklines moved wide to the shoulders, which gave a very romantic feel.  Women's fashion was all about glamour and being ultra feminine, something that had been lost in the previous era.

Lastly, the youth movement was taking over. Teenager (the named coined in the 50's) fashion was detouring from emulating adult fashion. Sweater sets and pants were becoming more popular and started to set standards for young adult fashions. Yay for denim!

A favorite designer of ours, Stephanie James Couture, designs wedding gowns that fit perfectly into the 1950's era.

2nd Annual Desert Bride Trunkshow

This was my second annual trunkshow at Desert Bride, but my first trunkshow at their beautiful, expanded, new store (which was so elegant).  I was blessed to work with gracious and gorgeous brides to be. The first bride, was stunning!  She chose the Cleopatra headband, Rani earrings, and Zina bracelet. Perfect choice.

Tamara is a bride that already purchased her wedding jewelry, but came in to thank me (because she loves her jewelry) and to order her bridesmaid's jewelry/gifts.  Tamara brought in her youthful mother, who found her MOB dress at Desert Bride and MEG Jewelry during our trunk show. Thank you Tamara for being so kind and appreciative, it's people like you that keep me doing what I am doing!

Trunk show at Mon Amie with Lazaro

I love being at Mon Amie! This time it was extra special because I was blessed to be working with Lazaro. I can't say enough good things about this man personally and as a designer. He is wonderful!  My teenage daughter came along for this trunk show. She and Lazaro instantly became friends. He taught her how to sketch, and now she is designing dresses. Thanks Lazaro...you truly are an amazing man!

Now, let's talk about his dresses. GORGEOUS! Lazaro has a dress to fulfill every girl's dream. A lot of lace, sparkle, and intricate work. Romantic and couture elements of the dresses appeared to be a perfect match with MEG Jewelry! The most popular set to compliment a Lazaro Dress? The  Zina earrings and Zina bracelet, Perfection!

{Wedding Eras} The Wartime Bride, 1940's

When you think about the 1940's,  we all can think about a huge event that happened globally, The Second World War. This event influenced many aspects of the people's lives, including wedding fashions.

Rationing was underway and clothing was included. Most woman's fashions at the time were heavily influenced by military styles. Tailored, squared silhouettes, with masculine and utilitarian influences were styles that women had to choose from. Good bye was the natural silhouette of the 1930's. It was common that brides would wear a current dress of theirs and grooms their military regalia for the wedding ceremony. A few days planning was all that some brides had for their wedding if their finance came home for leave!

The 1940's has had an incredible influence on fashion of the 21st Century and is continually revisited down the runway, time and time again.

"The Golden Age of Hollywood" Bride

As you have noticed, here on the MEG Jewelry blog we have following different decades and what trends inspired bridal fashion. So far we have covered pre 1900, 1910 La Bella Epoque, and the 1920's bride. Inspired so far?

Continuing our journey, we now move into the 1930's when the female silhouette returns to the natural shape instead of the tubular fashions of the 1920's. We see draped designs that sweep the floor. "The Golden Age of Hollywood" movie influences had a incredible impact on fashion. Feminine details such as ruffles, cowl necklines, halters, and backless gowns were the go-to trends. America was knee-deep in The Depression which led to the popularity of the movies. People could escape!

1930's Hollywood Glamour, Marlene Dietrich
Even though we featured Jenny Packham last week, Packham is spot on for 1920's and 1930's fashion. Here are two glamorous designs from her Spring/Summer 2011 Line.
